Find Fantastic Free Elementary Art Lessons Quick

I remember my first year as an art specialty teacher and being at a loss for where to turn for quality lesson plans. There’s so much content out there that it can be daunting to detangle the great resources from substance-less kids crafts. Let me save you the search for high quality lesson plans that meet core standards, teach meaningful art principles, and that students will love. And as always, check out my FREEBIES.

ART WITH MRS. FILMORE

This is my go-to site to check when I’m looking for great lesson plans. Mollie Filmore gives free detailed descriptions of her process, needed materials, and pictures of her lessons. In addition, her website also has tons of valuable tips on organizing your classroom, asking for donations, free downloads, video recommendations and more. In fact, it was her site that inspired my own vision.

Mollie is an elementary art teacher in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BFA with a concentration in photography from Montserrat College of Art and her Masters in Art Education from Mass College of Art & Design.

My goal as an art teacher is to be encouraging and supportive and show my students that I am there to help them learn and grow artistically as individuals. Where students learn that it’s okay to make mistakes and that art requires practice, just like riding a bike or playing an instrument.

MARTINA POOK

Martina Pook has worked as an illustrator, art professor, and art show judge. She has many free art tips and resources on her site. My favorite though, are her printable artist biographies. Check out her artist bios here and look through this list to see if she has what you’re looking for.

I believe it is imperative to start out drawing and painting with a solid technical, fundamental base of realistic drawing and painting skills. It is from this firm knowledge base that we can break free to create whatever our heart desires..

INCREDIBLE ART DEPARTMENT

Ken Rohrer is an elementary art teacher in Indiana. He started the Incredible Art Department website back in 1994. It was perhaps the first art education website in the world! His site has a huge variety of lesson plan resources. One of my favorite things about this site is how easy it is to find lessons. You can search by grade, medium, subject, art period, artist, and integration. I will warn you though, there are a lot of distracting ads. It reminds me of looking at a beautiful landscape through a dirty window.

BEVERLEY TAYLOR SORENSON ARTS LEARNING PROGRAM

BTS Arts provides free and easy to download lesson plans. They clearly list Utah fine arts standards and include pictures. These lessons are specifically designed to integrate with a variety of subjects. This allows students to build deeper connections with other academic subject areas.

Beverley Taylor Sorenson was instrumental in reinvigorating elementary arts education in Utah. The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTS Arts) provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students.

CLASSROOM DOODLES

Classroom Doodles has a bunch of free printable coloring pages. They have several line drawings of famous artworks that I like to offer my fast finishers. I love that the coloring pages expose students to famous artwork and allows them to color it as they want.
